Access

Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery (KWAG) is located at 101 Queen Street North, Kitchener inside Centre in the Square (CITS).

Nearest intersection: Queen Street & Otto Street or Queen Street & Ellen Street. Lobby doors open both to Ellen and Otto Streets during opening hours with automatic accessible doors on each side.

Walking / Transit

  • GO Transit or Via Rail: 10 minutes to GO/Via train station by foot or mobility device.
  • ION light rail station: Closest station is Frederick/King Street: 8 minutes by foot or mobility device.

Drop-Off Spots:

  • The Ellen Street ring road enables drop-off right outside the main lobby entrance: 1 minute walk to lobby.
  • 15-minute drop-off spots are located on Otto Street: a 2-minute walk to the lobby.
  • Note: No parking is permitted in KWAG’s loading bay at any time. There is a bike rack outside of KWAG on Otto Street near Queen. Note KWAG cannot ensure the security of bicycles parked here.

Parking

Option 1: 
Centre in the Square Surface lot (Street Level), accessible from Otto Street. 2 minutes by foot or on a mobility device to the lobby (includes road crossing). Operated by the City of Kitchener.

  • The lot includes four accessible parking spots.

Option 2: 
Kitchener Public Library Surface Lot (Street Level), accessible from Queen Street. A 4-minute walk or mobility device to the lobby (includes road crossing). Operated by the City of Kitchener.

  • The lot includes three accessible parking spots.

Parking details and costs for both of these parking lots (as of summer 2025):

  • Cost: $2.70/hour to a maximum of $13.40/day
  • Hours requiring payment: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and during Centre in the Square events (“Theatre Parking”). Note: Theatre Parking at $12 goes into effect if Centre in the Square is open for an event after 6:00 p.m.
  • Payment can be made at meters in the lots by Visa, MC, debit or exact change (no change given). Payment can also be made via the Passport Parking App.
  • If paying at the meter, be sure to place the payment slip in the windshield area of your vehicle.
  • Parking in this lot is generally free on Saturdays and Sundays during the day (excluding any CITS Theatre parking/evening events).

Option 3: 
Civic District Parking Garage (Underground Lot). 5-10 minutes by foot or mobility device to the lobby. Operated by the City of Kitchener.

  • Lots are underground and have elevator access. Two accessible spots are located beside the elevators on P1.

The underground lot has two entrances, one off Queen St, on the south side of the Kitchener Public Library, and the other off Otto St across from Centre In the Square (beside the surface lot).

  • Cost: First 1/2 hour: $1.20, next 1/2 hour is $1.20, each 1/2 hour thereafter is $1.80 to a maximum of $16.20.
  • Hours requiring payment: Monday to Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday is Free.

Note: Theatre parking at $12 goes into effect if Centre in the Square is open for an event after 6:00 p.m.

Free parking: There are a limited number of free two-hour on-street parking spaces on Margaret Avenue, Mansion St and Ellen St between Victoria and Queen. Metered parking is available on Ahrens St and Roy St. Please review signage to confirm hours and spaces where parking is allowed. The City of Kitchener maintains a map of parking options in Downtown Kitchener here.
