KW|AG 2 go

We are very excited to introduce our new school visit program, KW|AG 2 GO.

KW|AG 2 GO: You and Me at the Art Gallery
Junior Kindergarten through Grade 1

This program introduces primary-aged students to KW|AG and to the experience of visiting an art gallery. Emphasis is placed on observing how artists use shapes in their work. Students create collages using organic shapes of their own design and have the opportunity to share their artwork with their peers during the "Gallery Walk" game.

KW|AG 2 GO: Three Part Program
Grades 2 through 8

Our new three part program consists of two in-school sessions and one gallery visit.

1. Pre-Visit in your classroom
Using an inquiry-based activity and a piece from KW|AG's permanent collection, students practice careful observation and begin to learn about interpreting a work of art. This is followed by an art making activity inspired by what they have seen.  Content for each presentation is tied to grade-specific curriculum; teachers have a choice between two topics for each grade:

Grade 2 Simple Machines or Repetition and Rhythm
Grade 3 Plants and Soil or Variety
Grade 4 Habitats or Emphasis
Grade 5 The Human Body or Proportion
Grade 6 First Nations or Balance
Grade 7 Natural Resources or Unity and Harmony
Grade 8 Migration or Movement

2. Your Gallery Visit
Students will view the current shows with one of our artist-educators as their guide and then head into the studio to experiment with various media and explore the themes discussed during their tour.

3. Post-Visit in your classroom
Post-visits begin by challenging students to remember as much as they can about a specific work they saw while at the gallery. This is followed by an art making activity designed to extend what has been learned at the gallery into new realms.

KW|AG 2 GO: Portfolio Builder
Grades 9 through 12

Students will get the "inside scoop" on what makes a good portfolio. Our educators will guide the students through a self-assessment of at least one potential portfolio piece and will facilitate a discussion of current options in art-related education and careers.
