4000 Reasons to spend more time at KW|AG…

     The Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery invites applications for a new Community Curator exhibition series.  Community Curators work closely with the Gallery's curatorial staff to choose work from the Gallery's 4,000 -piece permanent collection, resulting in an exhibition presented in our Corridor Gallery. The theme of the exhibition and the works selected will be shaped by the Community Curator's own interests and curiosity. Selected applicants have a chance to research KW|AG's collections database and storage areas, brainstorm ideas with Gallery staff to develop an exhibition theme and get a behind-the-scenes look at an exhibition installation.  Community Curators also have the opportunity to work with staff on the installation, and to develop a brochure for their project.

    The only pre-requisites are a desire to learn about the Gallery's permanent collection and an eagerness to share the collection with the community.

    Community Curator projects are on view for approximately 12 weeks each.  Perspective; Perception: What Matters Most, on view from March 27 to August 29, 2011, is an example of a Community Curator project. In preparation for your application, you are encouraged to visit the Gallery in person to begin some preliminary research, using the permanent collection database located in the Gallery's Hub lounge in the lobby. The Gallery's curatorial staff will review the applications and follow up with shortlisted candidates to learn more about what interests them about this opportunity. Shortlisted candidates will be selected based on their ability to organize and communicate their ideas, willingness to visit the gallery for occasional meetings, and genuine enthusiasm and interest in this opportunity.
