About the Board of Directors
![]() | Alf Bogusky (ex officio) is a seasoned museum professional with 33 years of experience directing small, medium and large size institutions, two of which have been provincial flagships. He has been Director General of KW|AG since September 2001. This is the fifth such posting in his career which has included terms in similar positions at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery, the Art Gallery of Windsor, The Edmonton Art Gallery (now the Art Gallery of Alberta) and most recently the Vancouver Art Gallery. |
![]() | Joseph Fung is an entrepreneurial executive with over 10 years experience in product management and marketing in the internet and software industries. He is Director of IT & Collaboration Strategies at CIGI, and Co-founder, President and CEO of Lewis Media. Joseph is also the co-founder of YaBB SE and Simple Machines Forum. He has an Honours Bachelor of Applied Science in Computer Engineering (BASc) from the University of Waterloo, and is committed to corporate citizenship and personal community involvement. |

Murray Gamble is the President of the C3 Group of Companies, an innovative engineering and advanced construction technology organization based in the Waterloo Region. A graduate of the University of Waterloo, Murray has been an active entrepreneur in the region for 25 years, founding a number of technology companies with his partner Cameron Wood. Murray is past President of the Innovators Alliance (the association of Ontario's fastest growing firms) and is the current Chair of the Advisory Council for the Centre for Business Entrepreneurship and Technology at the University of Waterloo. He also serves on the Engineering Dean's Advisory Council at the University of Waterloo and is a member of the Industrial Advisory Board for the Colleges of Ontario Network for Innovation. Murray has been an active volunteer in the arts community. He was recently co - Chair of the Vision Committee for the Prosperity Council's Creative Enterprise initiative and serves on the Centre in the Square and Waterloo Regional Children's Museum Boards. An art lover and avid collector, Murray is excited to be part of the Gallery Board and looks forward to helping the KWAG team continue to grow the institution's reputation for excellence both nationally and internationally. |
![]() | Peggy Jarvie is the Executive Director of University of Waterloo's Co-operative Education and Career Services. Peggy has extensive experience in marketing, corporate finance, team building and change management. She was formerly Assistant Vice-President of Customer Knowledge and Branding at Sun Life Financial, and has held a variety of roles at Clarica and at other financial services companies. Peggy has a BA in English Literature from Mount Allison University, an MA in Canadian Literature from the University of New Brunswick, and a Master of Library and Information Studies from the University of California at Berkeley. She became involved with KW|AG's Board of Directors to nourish her life-long interest in the visual arts and to contribute to the community. Among her favourite KW|AG exhibitions are Variations on the Picturesque and Bloom! "I loved Variations because it built off Home Watson's work, an iconic part of the region's history and a significant part of the Gallery's permanent collection, and introduced contemporary treatments of landscape. Wonderful artist talks and truly gorgeous work. I also loved Bloom! because of the juxtaposition of historical and contemporary work, and the integration of Camilla Gibb's fictional narrative that linked the work in a new way. I also really like the River Grand Chronicles, and Janet Morton's work." Peggy enjoys traveling and visiting art galleries whenever she can. |
| Doug Kirton received his BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (1978) and his MFA from the University of Guelph (1994). Doug joined the faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Waterloo (2001). His work is represented in numerous private, corporate and public collections, including the National Gallery of Canada and the Shanghai Art Museum. Doug is represented by Artcore/Fabrice Marcolini (Toronto). |
![]() | Bryce Kraeker is a partner in Gowlings' Waterloo Region office. He is a member of both the Corporate Finance, Securities and Public M&A Practice Group and the Private Equity and Venture Capital National Practice Groups. Bryce advises clients on all aspects of public issuer transactions and regulation, including public offerings of debt and equity, private placements, equity incentive plans, corporate governance, take-over bids, continuous disclosure and M&A transactions. Bryce also advises both Canadian and international clients on securities dealer and adviser registration issues, particularly relating to compliance issues in respect of private equity and venture capital fund formation and the marketing and distribution of securities in Canada. Bryce also advises on the securities law aspects of derivatives trading. |
![]() | Ian McLean owns McLean and Associates, a consulting firm for strategic problem solving and business development in private, public, and not-for-profit sectors. Ian requested to be the city's representative on KW|AG's Board of Directors when he was elected as a Councilor for the City of Waterloo. He is a session member of Knox Presbyterian Church, and an active committee member of a Charity Golf Tournament in support of The Kitchener-Waterloo Community Foundation. His favourite KW|AG exhibition is Expressions: "I enjoy seeing the perspectives of young people finding themselves, discovering their creative side, and the variety of viewpoints of artists at different ages. I also like multimedia exhibitions, particularly those with a historical focus, such as the Parochial Views series." He enjoys golfing, cooking, and spending time with his daughters Hannah and Abigail, and dog Solomon. |
![]() | Dwayne Priestman is the Relationship Manager for TD Commercial Banking in Kitchener-Waterloo. He has worked for TD Commercial Banking for approximately 25 years. In his current role, he is a business developer for mid to large size businesses in Waterloo Region. Dwayne joined KW|AG's Board of Directors because he has an interest in the arts, and he felt that he could bring his business acumen and experience to the Board. He also sits on the Waterloo Economic Development Committee. One of Dwayne's favourite exhibitions is Expressions. "Expressions allows us to see through young people's eyes and to appreciate their creativity. It's fascinating to see such interesting, varied art work by young people of all ages. I am amazed by their talent." In his free time, Dwayne enjoys golfing and collecting wine. |
![]() | Rita Ross has been a volunteer with the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery for many years. She was Vice Chair and Chair of the Organizing Committee for the Gallery's Black & Gold Gala for four very successful events. Rita is excited to be part of a Board that she sees as strong, vibrant and responsible. She is particularly thrilled with the involvement of the local boards of education in education programming and in the Expressions exhibition. Rita is a former teacher and is involved with child-based volunteer work. She also enjoys coordinating fundraising events for a variety of organizations including the Children's Museum and the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery. |
![]() | Judith Stephens-Wells is currently President of KW|AG's Board of Directors and has previously represented KW|AG on the Centre In The Square's Board of Directors. She has served on numerous boards and committees including the Region of Waterloo Arts Fund, KW Opera/Opera Ontario, and the City of Waterloo's Cultural Development Committee, Cultural Grants Sub-Committee, and Economic Development Committee. Judith was a member of the Strategic Planning/Steering Committee that founded the Waterloo Community Arts Centre and one of its founding Board members. She graduated from Queen's University with a degree in Fine Arts (painting and printmaking). She pursued further studies in the MBA program at York University, the Banff Centre, and the Institute of Cultural Affairs. Judith worked as Manager at The Museum Shop (Toronto), was Studio Director of Open Studio (Toronto), founding Executive Director of Toronto Artscape Inc., and Interim Director of the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery on two occasions. ![]() | KPMG has a long history of supporting the arts, in particular the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery, and Jim Stinson wanted to continue this tradition. In addition to sitting on KW|AG's Board of Directors, he is Treasurer for SPIN 12, an organization that raises money for St. Mary's Hospital and local amateur athletes. He is also past Treasurer of Canada's Technology Triangle (CTT). Jim helped established the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Canada which has helped countless families in southwestern Ontario. He is impressed by the enthusiasm and diverse nature of KWIAG's Board of Directors, and particularly enjoyed the Flatland exhibition because it showcased the depth and quality of the Gallery's permanent collection. "I am an enthusiastic supporter of our community and feel that Waterloo Region has much to offer. The arts community is part of this attraction and should be encouraged and supported," he says. |
![]() | Rick Weiss is a Private Banker with RBC Investments. He is past Vice-President of the German Canadian Business and Professionals Association, a Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree member, and a member of the German Canadian Hunting and Fishing Club. He represents the Gallery on the Centre In The Square Board of Directors, and is a former member of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony's Volunteer Committee. Rick accepted the invitation to join KW|AG's Board of Directors after attending the Black & Gold Gala in 2005 because his family has always had an interest in the visual arts. Rick's favourite KW|AG exhibition is Heavy Weather: Art Green Retrospective and he enjoyed attending Green's public Art Talk: "The opportunity to hear directly from the artist regarding what motivated him, and what continues to motivate him to create the kind of works he produces was fascinating," he says. Rick plays hockey for the Waterloo Men's Recreational Hockey League and is a Kitchener Rangers fan. He continually gives back to this community through sports groups, cultural organizations, and business associations. |

Christina Weylie has been a Councilor with the City of Kitchener for 25 years. She is a member of many committees, and is active in nine neighborhood associations. Christina is an Elder at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, a member of the Belmont Village Business Association, and serves on the Board of the Kitchener Downtown Business Association. As an artist, she has an interest in the local arts community, and she joined KW|AG's Board of Directors as a representative of the citizens of the City of Kitchener. Her favourite exhibition is Expressions because she appreciates seeing local children's art in the Gallery. "I am impressed with what the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery has accomplished over the past few years, and how far they have come as a well known art gallery," she says. Christina also enjoys playing bridge, swimming, reading, and traveling. |
